OPzS Technology: Vented Tubular for Stationary Power

OPzS Battery Technology for Long-Life Backup Power

THE FLOODED TUBULAR STANDARD

OPzS battery technology is the classic vented lead-acid route for stationary standby: tubular positive plates in a corrosion-resistant lead-selenium grid alloy, paired with flooded electrolyte in robust 2V cells. The tubular plate holds the positive active mass in woven gauntlets, strongly reducing plate growth and mass shedding, while the flooded design keeps investment cost low and the chemistry inherently heat-tolerant.

The result is a 2V cell platform built for decades of float duty: a floating design life of 20 years at 25 degrees C, more than 2200 cycles at 80% depth of discharge, a wide -40 to +70 degrees C operating window and excellent deep discharge recovery - even after long storage or partial-charge operation.

KEY SPECIFICATIONS

01

20-Year Floating Design Life

Floating design life of 20 years at 25 degrees C and a self-discharge rate of about 5% per month, suited to long shelf standby.

02

Deep Cycle Endurance

More than 2200 cycles at 80% DOD and up to 6000 cycles at 25% DOD, with excellent deep discharge recovery after grid failures.

03

200-3000 Ah Capacity Range

C10 capacity range from 200 Ah to 3000 Ah in robust 2V cells, scalable into high-capacity strings for power plants and data centers.

04

-40 to +70 Degrees C Operation

Wide temperature window with high charge acceptance and low heat sensitivity, proven in unstable power networks and hot climates.

BATTERY CONSTRUCTION

The tubular positive plate with a lead-selenium grid alloy sits at the heart of the design: the corrosion-resistant alloy eliminates intergranular corrosion, one of the most common causes of cell failure, while the woven gauntlet raises the share of positive active mass. Dilute SG 1.240 electrolyte, microporous separators, a transparent high-impact SAN container for at-a-glance inspection, flame-arrestor ceramic vents, premium sliding poles and a fully insulated copper intercell connector complete a construction built to DIN 40736-1, DIN 40737-3, IEC 60896-11 and EN 50272-2.

KEY ADVANTAGES

01

Corrosion-Resistant Tubular Plates

Lead-selenium grid alloy eliminates intergranular corrosion, the most common cause of cell failure, extending float and cycle life in stationary duty.

02

Low Maintenance with Visual Checks

Occasional water top-ups only: the transparent SAN container lets site staff verify electrolyte level at a glance, while the special filter unit prevents acid fog emission.

03

Robust Against Harsh Environments

High charge acceptance, less sensitivity to heat issues and reliable deep discharge recovery make OPzS a dependable workhorse in unstable grids and high temperatures.

04

Certified Safety and Low TCO

Compliance with IEC 60896-11, DIN 40736-1/40737-3, IEC 61427 and EN 50272-2; certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and BS OHSAS 18001, with the flooded design keeping investment cost low.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

A proven power backbone for critical stationary systems:

Telecom & Power Stations

Communications systems, transformers, electricity networks and power stations running long float duty with occasional deep discharge.

WHY OPzS BATTERY?

Why choose OPzS instead of OPzV? Both share the same tubular plate technology and serve similar stationary duties, but OPzV gels its electrolyte inside a sealed, maintenance-free container, while OPzS stays flooded: lower upfront cost, less sensitivity to heat and a transparent SAN container for instant visual inspection. The trade-off is occasional water top-up - easy work when site staff are available. For cost-driven projects with access to basic maintenance, OPzS remains the classic long-float choice.
